Perfect coffee at home EVERY TIME? Yes! Learn all the tips.
Did you know that October 1st is celebrated as World Coffee Day? Probably not..
To have made it this far, you are probably a big coffee lover. That's why we have gathered some tips for you that will elevate your homemade coffee, whether it is Greek, espresso, or even filter!
Espresso
Espresso has become a part of our lives and is now more popular than the Greek coffee! However, few people know how to make it at home, so that it is as good as the one made by your favorite barista.
Some basic things you need to know:
1. Prefer coffee beans instead of ground
Once coffee is ground, it loses its aroma and intensity in just a few days! An electric coffee grinder will solve this problem for you. It starts at €10 and will significantly level up your experience.
2. Don't use tap water
Tap water has a high content of minerals and salts, depending on the region, which alters the taste of coffee. Use a water filter jug, to make it "lighter" and be able to taste all its flavors!
3. Choose the right milk for Cappuccino
If you are new and starting to learn how to make frothed milk, choose a light milk that will froth more easily and have a nice texture, but keep in mind that it won't have the same intensity in taste as full-fat milk. Of course, if you don't want to complicate things and always want to have perfect frothed milk, you can simply choose a milk frother for greater convenience!

Greek
Maybe the first coffee we all tried, when our grandfather or grandmother gave us a donut dipped in the cup. You can't not have it in your heart, even if it's not your go-to coffee! Below, the secrets to make it just like grandma did in the village.
1. Put the fire very low
Coffee in chovoli is amazing, that's true, but since it's a bit difficult to have a ready hot chovoli in your kitchen every morning, learn how to make it properly with a gas burner and a briki. It is extremely important to have a very low fire while roasting the coffee so that it can warm up slowly and release its aromas before "boiling".
2. Don't let it swell
It is very important as soon as it starts to swell around, to remove it from the fire before it manages to "rise" all the foam. If the coffee swells, that is, reaches boiling point, a large part of its aromas is lost!
3. Don't serve it immediately
When you remove the coffee, let it sit for at least 3 minutes, so that the sediment accumulates in the briki. The coffee you will serve will be much "cleaner" in taste and texture!

Filter
Filter coffee, also known as French coffee, as we commonly call it in Greece, is the coffee that you can never be satisfied with just one cup a day. It comes in so many flavors that it is impossible to stick to the classic one. Like all coffees, it has its own tricks.
1. Use a filter
Even if your coffee maker has its own filter (the one with the mesh), the result cannot be compared to a coffee that has passed through a paper filter. The paper retains even the finest grain, resulting in a very smooth coffee with a "smooth" texture.
2. "Wet" the coffee before putting it in
It may sound strange to you, but it is a very important step that the coffee maker cannot do on its own. Put the coffee in the filter, add about 50 ml of hot water, just enough to cover the beans, and let it sit for 45"-60" before pressing the machine's button. It may seem like an insignificant step, but this way the carbon dioxide residues from the coffee are released and its intensity is enhanced. Trust us, the difference will show in your cup!
3. Keep the device clean
It is very important to wash both the jug and the filter holder with warm water and soap each time before using it again. This way, you will avoid taste distortions from residues of old coffee in your utensil.
