Coming from a 5600x and not wanting to change the whole platform to do productivity tasks beyond gaming, I was torn between the 5800x3d and the 5900x. I ended up with this one based on the graphics card I have installed (Sapphire Rx6700, where the 5800x3d wouldn't make a big difference) and the work involving video editing, databases, etc. The difference is day and night.
Installed on a gigabyte aorus x470 gaming and Arctic Liquid Freezer II cooling. In terms of performance, I don't even discuss it, ~300 euros for 12 cores I think is the golden mean if you don't want to change the platform from AM4. Finally, databases like SQL/MariaDB have "come alive" and in video editing, the times have dropped dramatically.
In terms of temperatures, I haven't seen anything above 65-70 degrees in stress tests with PBO +100 and curve optimizer -20 (the liquid freezer ii also does a fantastic job).
In games, it's a little different. In most games, I didn't see big differences, except for some (F1 23, for example, which went from ~155 to ~180 with the same settings). On the other hand, as I mentioned at the beginning, it wasn't a choice based on games mainly but productivity, as work brings upgrades and games.
For those who are already on AM4 (5700x and below), it's a very good choice for work primarily but also for games. For those who have a PC for gaming mainly with a powerful graphics card (4070, 7800xt and above), the 5800x3d would be a better choice.

Update 29/07/24:
After using the processor for several months and changing the motherboard to MSI x570A-Pro, I noticed what some mentioned about increased temperatures without anything else changing except for the motherboard.
I did some checks and changes in thermal paste (Kryonaught), without seeing any improvement and the temperatures were rising up to 75-80 degrees with AIO Arctic Liquid Freezer II 240. What I noticed on the X570 chipset was that, compared to the x470 which went up to 145 watts, on the x570 the consumption went up to 190-200 watts and that was the reason for the temperature increase. By turning off all the CPU's OC features (PBO, etc.), the consumption decreased and the temperature dropped below 70 degrees.

I recommend caution with these specific chipsets (X570, B550) as I noticed that they have the CPU wattage consumption "free" as well as the voltage raised by default.

After years of being a fan of Corsair/Thermaltake, I decided to try out be quiet! products since the reviews I read about them were generally very good. With that being said... the 4 fans - 3x 120mm, 1x 140mm - replaced the previous ones in my Thermaltake Spedo Advance case (I know it's old but the airflow it has is amazing), 2 to exhaust air from the case behind the AIO liquid freezer ii 240 in a pull configuration (for push, I have left the "mama" Arctic fans which are fantastic by the way), one 140mm in the front for intake and one in front of the motherboard to blow air onto the RAM and MOSFETs.

Although I didn't expect significant changes in the temperatures inside the case, since the airflow, as mentioned before, is amazing, I noticed a huge difference in the noise produced by the PC. Even at night when it's completely quiet, I can barely hear the fans, even at the default speed settings on the motherboard. At full speed, they make quite a bit of noise, but the airflow they generate is simply excessive for normal use. At around 40-65% speed, which is what they run at in my case, they are almost silent.

In terms of temperature, the difference is within the margin of error, around 1-2 degrees, which I don't take seriously since these are not lab measurements in a controlled environment and the temperatures are already low (30-35 degrees inside the case according to various sensors on the motherboard and 2 additional sensors of my own).

In conclusion, I highly recommend them to those who have noisy fans and want relatively good performance without too much noise in their environment.

P.S. To avoid any misunderstandings regarding the 4 stars and the mediocre criticism about the noise, it is specifically about the noise they make at full speed. That's why there are the silent wings from the same company with a similar price.

The 4 stars are for the difficulty level during installation. A relatively inexperienced user will struggle a bit, but that's about it. It was installed on a Ryzen 3600x in a push-pull configuration and the temperatures are much better compared to the Corsair h60 it replaced. 35-60 degrees Celsius instead of 38-72. PBO and other factory settings were used. The thermal paste I used is the thermal grizzly kryonaut in both cases.

Edit:
After upgrading to the 5600x, I can say that it is a decent liquid cooler, with temperatures ranging from 28-65 degrees Celsius, even though this specific CPU tends to run hot with PBO, etc.

Update 21/10/22:
After an announcement from Arctic, some batches - including mine - had an issue with the cold plate. After filling out a form on Arctic's website, they sent me the materials needed to fix it, along with a link to a video tutorial (which, by the way, is not very difficult) completely free of charge. This alone increases my trust in this company, which I have relied on for many years.

Update 17/09/23:
Because I was lazy to open up the block to replace it, I did it during the summer due to high temperatures. The CPU was reaching temperatures of around 70-73 degrees Celsius, and I had forgotten that I hadn't changed the copper plate. After replacing it (and believe me, it was quite corroded after 1.5 years), reinstallation resulted in a temperature drop of 10 degrees (from 73 to 62-64 with room temperature at 28-30 degrees) and all of this with almost no noise.
After the summer, the maximum temperatures I've seen are around 58-60 degrees Celsius during stress tests.

P.S. If I were to change it, it would be for a larger one, but still the same (360mm or even 420mm). I only achieved such cooling results with expensive liquid coolers (over 300-400 euros) that required a lot of effort to set up. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for proper liquid cooling without spending too much money.
