You can adjust the charging speed of the battery, meaning the amperage, and also you can adjust the voltage limit that the battery will reach, regardless of its upper voltage limit. So, if the battery reaches up to 4.2 volts, you can set the charger to go up to 3.7 volts, which is good if you don't plan on using the battery for many months. If a Li-On battery drops below 3.7 volts, it starts deteriorating gradually. However, devices nowadays are smarter and don't allow themselves to draw current below 3.7 volts, so the battery doesn't start deteriorating. So, if you have such a device, don't worry. But if the battery stays below 3.7 volts for more than 6 months or even lower and you don't charge it, it will start deteriorating gradually. The charger charges at a speed of up to 3 amps and up to 4.3 volts, although I haven't seen batteries that reach 4.3 volts because most of us know the 4.2 volts Li-On batteries.
