Academic and independent researchers from Greece, the UK, and the US presented at the 1st Panhellenic Conference on Mythicism (held in Athens in May 2016) new positions and perspectives on the scientific research concerning the historical basis of various religious beliefs and personalities.
In their presentations, they approached issues such as: the relationship of Jesus with pre-Christian solar cults, the Mythical exploration of iconographic types, doctrines, and customs such as the infant-ruling Mary, the Transfiguration of the Virgin Mary and the Anastenaria, the significance of mythical thinking and the extensions of ancient Greek cosmology in Christianity, the origins of the problematic surrounding the historicity of Jesus, the case of judicial prosecution of a Greek Mythicist in the early '80s, as well as the contemporary international trends of the Mythicist movement.
