The Ibuki by Kabuto is a flip-up helmet, widely known as "flip-up" or "openable" as the front part of the helmet can be lifted. Because it is openable, it does not offer the same level of safety as a full-face helmet. It is usually a convenient choice for people who make many short trips with several stops daily. It is made of composite fibre, that is, from synthetic fibers that make it flexible and resistant to shock absorption. It fastens with a microlock, which allows you to fasten it easily and quickly. The helmet has European safety certification "ECE 22.05", which ensures that the helmet is tested for drop, impact, and object penetration. The package includes an anti-fog film, an additional accessory for the helmet visor that prevents it from fogging up. It is placed on the inner side of the helmet and is useful during the winter months. Additionally, it features a sun visor, which is an internal sunshade film, like glass, for protection from the sun.
Specifications are collected from official manufacturer websites. Please verify the specifications before proceeding with your final purchase. If you notice any problem you can report it here.
It is a very good helmet, what has been written about it is true and I would add that the inner visor has been worn out by the pins and no longer stays in place from the second year. The insulation on the open-close mechanism has also been worn out, resulting in water getting in. However, it has its good points, it is lightweight, has good quality in the shell, and its price has dropped significantly. However, the competition is tough, but it is not made in Japan. After 4 years of daily use and having covered over 60,000 kilometers with this helmet, I have to mention that the shell has started to develop cracks and the leather around the neck and the back of the head has started to wear out and small pieces are coming off. I have replaced the anti-fog inner visor as the two internal points of attachment were worn out by the visor screws. Overall, the comparison with top companies would be unfair, but its origin and the experience of this company should confront the competition and not have these weaknesses that spoil its overall image.
I have been using the Kabuto Ibuki for a month now, as a former owner of a Shoei Multitec for eight years. First of all, the helmet weighs 1690 grams, but you don't feel it on your head, not even when you lift the chin because it has a small volume. It is stable when worn and very cool, unlike the Shoei. Both air vents allow for incredible airflow (something I had never experienced with the Shoei, even when I left it open). However, as a rider of a large scooter who covers nearly 2000 kilometers per month at speeds close to 140 km/h, the Kabuto shows excellent stability even when I turn my head 90 degrees. However, it does produce increased noise on straight roads, which takes some time to get used to (due to its small volume). In conclusion, the quality is good, the paint is durable, the visor is large and clear, and the sun visor is a pleasant surprise as it can be easily opened even with gloves on. It is also very glasses-friendly (more so than the five others I have tried). I won't comment on the price, but it could be lower, although it is made in Japan...
