The recorder does indeed produce sound, but depending on its placement, it is not very bothersome (personally, I fit it inside a rack). One of the major drawbacks of the recorder is that for live view monitoring of the image through a computer/tablet/smart TV, it does not work everywhere (web interface) but only with the manufacturer's applications. Specifically, in order to view the image, you will either need to have a connected screen (HDMI/RGB) or through a local network (LAN) with the ivms program (from the manufacturer) or through the web interface, but only with Internet Explorer (oh yes, forget about Mozilla, Chrome, Edge, Safari, etc.). Personally, I wanted to have access to the local network from my mobile/tablet/laptop/smart TV, so that I could view it from any device by entering the IP, but I found out that I had to install Internet Explorer (and subsequently enable some ActiveX) in order to see the image (obviously for the laptop). I won't comment at all if you have Linux/Mac, then good luck and search the internet well for it (those who sell the devices fail to mention it, and most of us - like me - fall into the trap that since it's a network device, it will work on anything that has internet...). In conclusion, for pure local use, you will play ball with Internet Explorer or the ivms (which I found out fortunately exists in the Google market) and forget about the simple web interface from other devices. For image on a global level (WAN), then you will have to connect with the Hikvision server with all that it entails, as mentioned in the above comment (obviously, since it goes beyond the local network, there is a possibility that others can see your image). As for the menu and response speed, I have no complaints.

The negatives:
It has 2 fans and makes a lot of noise.
After I bought it, I found out that it sends data to the mother company (China) (spyware).
ONVIF is not fully compatible with all IP cameras, so it may display an image, but the motion trigger recording does not work with some cameras, so be careful with the options. (It works well with their own cameras)
