The DFPlayer Mini is a compact and inexpensive MP3 module that can be connected directly to the speaker. The module with battery power supply, speaker, and keyboard can be used on its own or through serial port control, such as Arduino UNO or any microcontroller with a serial port module. The unit itself perfectly integrates MP3, WAV, WMA hardware decoding. While the software supports TF card driver for FAT16, FAT32 file system support. It can play specified music with a simple serial command, as well as music playback mode and other functions, without tedious low-level operations, easy to use, stable, and reliable.

Unfortunately, I probably ended up with a defective one (that's what cheap ones have). When connected to a breadboard, it didn't produce any sound. I tried another one and it worked perfectly. Searching on YouTube, I saw that some of these cheap ones have issues with the soldering
It works perfectly. I used it for an electronic music box and I wanted it to play only one song in a loop when the box lid opens.
I didn't need to connect it to an Arduino as the task I wanted to accomplish could be done simply by connecting the IO_1 or IO_2 pin to ground.
