Description
Thermal paste applied to the processor to improve the performance of the cooling system. It is applied in small quantities on the CPU before the heatsink is installed.
Due to its special composition, the heat dissipation from the CPU to the heatsink is better directed and reduces the operating temperature.
Arctic Silver 5 contains over 88% thermally conductive material by weight. It contains sub-micron zinc oxide, aluminum oxide, and boron nitride particles, which enhance the performance of the thermal paste while promising long-term stability. It does not contain silicone. It is not electrically conductive.
3 to 12 degrees Celsius lower core temperatures at full load compared to typical thermal compounds or thermal pads when measured with a calibrated thermal diode embedded in the CPU core.
Coverage area: A 3.5-gram syringe contains enough compound to cover at least 15 to 25 small CPU cores or 6 to 10 large CPU cores or 2 to 5 heat plates. At a layer thickness of 0.003", the 3.5-gram syringe covers approximately 16 square inches.

Once it was the best at what it did. Now it has simply fallen behind. MX-4 and thermal grizzly do a better job with non-conductive pastes. Silver 5 hardens in 6 months and comes off INCREDIBLY difficult. MX-4 is much more fluid and doesn't harden as quickly.

The temperatures were around 70-75 degrees, so the first thing I thought of was to change the thermal paste. I'm not sure if the temperatures dropped dramatically because I still see them around the same range, but the restarts and blue screens stopped completely. It has been a week now and I haven't had any issues. We'll see how it goes...

I have tried several and recently compared three: Arctic MX-4, Arctic Silver 5, and K4 Pro, on a MacBook Air 2020 with a known throttling issue. This specific laptop, due to an error in the construction of the heatsink, requires a 0.3mm copper spacer to be raised in order to make contact with the CPU. After applying a small amount, I have noticed approximately 15 degrees lower temperatures in various stress tests and a 10-15% increase in performance due to reduced throttling.
The application should be done with a small amount proportional to the surface area and spread evenly. Additionally, a minimal amount should be applied to the heatsink and lightly wiped to leave an almost transparent film and fill the copper pores. This helps reduce the time it takes to reach maximum performance. Specifically, in my case, the temperature has stabilized a few degrees lower than the initial application after 24 hours.
On the internet, you will read various reviews stating that Arctic Silver 5 has been surpassed. In reality, it is in a category of its own due to its composition with silver, while other categories are based on carbon, ceramic, or liquid metal. Besides its excellent performance, I have also observed a long lifespan of over 3 years in previous applications.
If you have the time and experience, try different pastes yourself to find the one that suits you best.

Well, the system was literally burning, temperatures reached 85 degrees in gaming. The other paste had dried out and I had to get a new one. I applied this one and in gaming, after 3 hours, temperatures were at 70 degrees. When I watch a movie, it goes down to 47 degrees. It's definitely worth it, take it with closed eyes

Did you find this review helpful?Well, I have tried most of the pastes from well-known companies. I used this particular one for years, until I switched to mx4. So, after I had pasted my 5700 xt graphics card with many pastes, I noticed that as time went by, the temperatures would eventually rise up to 10 degrees, resulting in hitting 100 degrees Celsius under load, which made me feel uncomfortable. I noticed that I had the pump out effect with the paste from the other company I mentioned, meaning that after 6 months, there was no trace left on the die, only a blurry paste, the same with the heatsink. It is worth mentioning that I have used plastic washers for better tightening of the cooling on the die, and I spread it all over the die. So, I decided to go back to this one, even though I heard that it is the worst tim for gpus, due to conductivity and overestimation (in a small percentage it can become conductive, not that it will destroy your circuits). So, I tried it on a gpu for the first time, applied it on the die and a little on the heatsink. The temperatures dropped 3 degrees more than mx4, and even during overnight stress tests, with 31 degrees Celsius in the room, the card did not exceed 82 degrees Celsius. It can withstand continuous temperatures up to 130 degrees, and reading several blogs, it does not have the pump out effect or bleeding, it can simply dry out, which I find preferable to a paste evaporating. In the past, I never changed this particular paste, and even when it dried out, it was still liquid and had as much material as I had applied during installation. In general, there is a whole philosophy behind pastes. And okay, let's say it is conductive, use it correctly then! You don't need a ton of paste, but also not just a dot. For this particular one, they say that the thinner the layer is, with expansion and contraction, it manages to fill the gaps more and ultimately reduce the temperatures as time goes by. Some others say that once it is applied, let the computer run for a few hours and then turn it off for a day to let the paste tighten. Personally, I find that nonsense, but everyone knows something different.
With that being said, with proper application, the paste does the job it is supposed to do and I am completely satisfied. If anything changes, I will update the comment.

The temperature increased by 9 degrees Celsius. Unacceptable performance. I can't understand why it is so well-known and recommended on some sites. I immediately switched to kryonaut by Thermal Grizzly and the temperature dropped by 12 degrees (compared to Arctic). I do not recommend it under any circumstances.

It is an excellent paste but also very misunderstood despite being on the market for almost 20 years. Many doubt its thermal performance and consider it overrated. It is unique in application and requires attention to some simple things to perform well.
The manufacturer says that we should apply a layer of 0.003, for this it needs to be spread with a razor blade, and for this quantity it takes up to 200 hours of application. In a realistic application of the paste, we will achieve a layer of 0.5+ millimeters, so it will take more time for the paste to spread than the 200 hours stated by the manufacturer.
For the proper application of Arctic Silver 5, do the following.1) First, take the heatsink and place it on a flat surface. If it is stable and does not move, then the heatsink has a flat surface and you need to apply the least amount of Arctic Silver 5, just enough to cover the entire processor.
2) If the base of the heatsink is flat and the copper lines touch the processor, thoroughly clean the base of the heatsink for any gaps that may exist between the heat conductors and have been filled with your old paste. Apply a thin layer of Arctic Silver 5.
3) If your heatsink moves on a flat surface, do not worry, it is not a defect. The manufacturer designed it this way so that trapped air is released during installation. In this case, apply a thick layer of Arctic Silver 5 to ensure maximum contact between the heatsink and the processor. If you apply too little, the heatsink will have losses because only half of its base will touch the processor. Keep in mind that the more Arctic Silver 5 we apply, the longer it will take for the paste to spread.
Just give it time to work. My processor, which used to run at 100% from 61 degrees on the first day I applied Arctic Silver 5, now runs at 52-53 degrees after 3 months, with room temperature at 22-23 degrees. It will drop even further. I have been using it for 15 years, so I know.
Remember, freshly applied Arctic Silver 5 liquefies at high temperatures and dries at low temperatures. Only when it stops liquefying at high temperatures will the paste perform at its best.

Very reliable at low temperatures and durable over time. Specifically, I have an AMD Ryzen 2700x overclocked to 4.22ghz, which is cooled by an NZXT x62, and I have idle temperatures of 38c and max temperatures of 67c.
Also, I am a computer technician, so I use it on many other computers besides my own. A recent example where I saw a huge difference was a Turbo X laptop that had idle temperatures of 60 degrees and max temperatures of 95. As soon as I installed it, the difference was night and day, the temperatures dropped to idle 45c and max 60c. I highly recommend it! What one should do with pastes in general is follow the rule "less is more". The paste is used to cover small gaps and irregularities on the surfaces of the processor and cooler, so if we apply a small amount and cover most of the gaps, we're good. However, if we apply too much and cover the entire surface, then we minimize conductivity and trap heat in the processor. Just to give you an idea, the 3.5g tube is enough to cover 12-16 processors.
As for whether MX4 or MX2 are better, let's clarify what we mean. They may produce slightly better results under specific conditions, but they are not generally better.
In conclusion, there is no other paste for processors if you want to have peace of mind for years. gg

I have been using it for years, on desktop computers, and I decided to use it today on my MSI Apache Pro laptop, which I have had for 3 years and has been experiencing high temperatures in the past few months, resulting in thermal throttling even during simple gaming situations, reaching around 80+ degrees.
Therefore, I decided to re-paste it myself, wanting to avoid any hassle from any service, and "VOILA" as our friends say.
