The hero, with no future, wanders in Chalkida, Athens, Agios Konstantinos... He takes on whatever profession he can to survive; a piece of bread and a roof is enough for him to protect himself from the night and the storm. He becomes a shoeshine, an accountant, an actor, a wandering bookseller. In this way, he meets the author Giannis Skarimbas, with whom he becomes brotherly friends.
