Description

The book was written according to the requirements of the new curriculum for the subject of Ancient Greek Historiography for the 1st Grade of Lyceum. Along with this edition, the fully answered Question Bank of the I.E.P. is offered, and based on its sections, 33 Exam Simulation Criteria are proposed.

The main aim of the book is to facilitate the approach and understanding of the Attic dialect, as it is depicted in the second book of Xenophon's "Hellenica". It is organized into 20 Sections, including the processing of all the material offered in the school book for the introduction and overall consideration of this historical work through answered questions. In each of the sections, which follow the order defined by the school book, the following are included:

Semantic rendering of the text and translation in its syntactic order with respect to the rhythm and characteristics of the ancient and modern Greek languages.
Grammatical - Lexical comments - Principal parts and substitutions with emphasis and attention on those terms that students are mostly called upon to investigate during the educational process.
Complete syntactic analysis - syntactic notes based on what students have already been taught in Gymnasium and need to expand according to the Language Teaching Manual of the 1st Grade of Lyceum.
Aesthetic - Pragmatic - Interpretative comments that extend and deepen the school ones.
Evaluation criterion with interpretative, grammatical, lexical, and syntactic observations that stimulate the student's interest to find the solutions on their own through study and not to see them ready in the Appendix Answers.
Answers to the Questions - Exercises and Topics for discussion in the school book avoiding barren verbosity, which may impress but obscures the student's "vision".

Answers to the I.E.P. Question Bank

Each topic's observations are given and answered as follows:

For the translation of a specific text section, a page and paragraph reference is made to the school manual of parallel translations.
For the introduction observation, a page and excerpt reference is made to Xenophon's "Hellenica" school book.
For the lexical observation, answers are recorded that show the student that they gradually become capable of finding the required elements from the lexical wealth of the Greek, both ancient and modern, language.

33 Exam Simulation Criteria

Observations (translation, introduction, and lexical) are taken from representative topics of the 33 sections of the Question Bank and interpretative, grammatical, and syntactic observations of graded difficulty are added - proposed. Following the Exam Simulation Criteria are their answers.

Review this product
  • Relatively inadequate. Good semantic performance but lacking comprehension questions. Grammar and syntactic analysis are lacking.
