Description

This book aims to summarize and evaluate the historiographical, theoretical, and pedagogical reflection that has been formulated on the one hand for state policies of memory regarding the Holocaust, and on the other hand for the specific ways and forms of approaching traumatic memory from the post-war period to the present day.

Reasonably, Germany is referred to as an exemplary case study, while to a lesser extent, attention is focused on the states that were accomplices of German nationalism. However, the author's analysis does not leave aside the ways in which the states that were unintentionally transformed into "death factories" (Poland) chose to manage the situation.

Particular issues that are highlighted include: 1) the historical uniqueness of the Holocaust and its exemplary character, 2) the role of art as a process of healing and aestheticization, as well as the possibility or legitimacy of aesthetically representing trauma, 3) the dispensation of historical justice, and 4) pedagogical theory regarding the management of traumatic events or experiences.
