To understand, that is, that the divisions and harsh conflicts of the post-war period occurred between people who had been comrades for years, had fought together, had shared the same cell and the same plate of food, had walked the streets of exile or illegality together, had lost the same friends. It was this relationship of life that made their bonds so strong, but also the rifts between them so deep. From this perspective, the people of that generation deserve respect regardless of the path they later followed. What characterizes them was not the current of the communist movement to which they belonged. Their main characteristic is that they were fighters. That they chose a life full of dangers, sacrifices, and deprivations, with their only motive being their ideas and the desire to change the world.
