I hesitated for a long time to buy this thermometer, even though I read everywhere that it is considered the best. On one hand, because in the past I had bad experiences with a very expensive Braun electric shaver model, and on the other hand, because of the negative reviews that all digital thermometers receive, even if for the Thermoscan 7 these represent a very small percentage.

However, since we recently all caught the flu and discovered that all our digital thermometers either had dead batteries or were measuring unreliably, and after our baby broke the only backup mercury thermometer we had for an hour of need because he didn't want to wait 5 minutes to be measured while he was sleeping and my wife accidentally dropped it from her hand, I decided to take the step and order the Thermoscan 7, since when searching the market for the best digital thermometer, you come across this thermometer again and again.

I DON'T KNOW IF I JUST HAPPENED TO FIND A GOOD THERMOMETER FOR MYSELF, BUT FORTUNATELY, I WAS NOT INFLUENCED BY THE FEW NEGATIVE COMMENTS ON SCOUTZ/AMAZON/YOUTUBE AND I GAVE THIS MODEL A CHANCE!

--1--
No matter how many times the same person is measured, the measurement is always, always ACCURATE and always the same, and it can be easily done even blindly (e.g. measuring on myself) and there is absolutely no variation in the measurements.

--2--
Those who say that the thermometer has a deviation compared to a mercury thermometer, I hope they compared it by putting the mercury thermometer IN THEIR EAR, because in the ear - according to our pediatrician - we measure the CORE BODY TEMPERATURE and this measurement should never, ever be compared to measurements in the armpit, etc. So, many people should bother to read a manual, which explains everything.

--3--
The "beeps" that the thermometer produces during use DO NOT WAKE UP THE PERSON being measured, as some people claim. They are very low-intensity sounds that are barely audible in general, which is good.

The only slight negative thing about its menu, which in no way is a reason not to buy this thermometer, is that it doesn't "remember" the last age selection and the user has to select it again every time they activate it. Additionally, when it is activated, the youngest age is preselected, and considering that children eventually grow up in a family, it would be more logical to have the adult as the default selection.

IF I DON'T HAVE UNPLEASANT SURPRISES AGAIN FROM THIS BRAUN PRODUCT LIKE THE DISAPPOINTMENT I HAD WITH THEIR NAUTARCHIS ELECTRIC SHAVER IN TERMS OF QUALITY/DURABILITY, THEN THIS THERMOMETER IS WORTH ITS MONEY AND DEFINITELY DESERVES 5 STARS, OTHERWISE I WILL COME BACK AND DEMOTE IT TO 4 STARS (or even 4 stars, if possible).

I hesitated to buy it because of the (few) negative comments, but since taking temperature from a three-year-old, at night, and wearing pajamas, a t-shirt, etc. is very difficult, I finally decided to take the risk...
Unfortunately, I was not satisfied at all, the deviation from the armpit (digital) was very large and I could not rely on its indications. I should note that I have read many articles about the normal deviation between these measurements.
I tried various ways to use it.
The little one got sick with a relatively high fever and this thermometer was not helpful at all, I saw the reading on the armpit thermometer but the reading on the ear thermometer made me doubt.
When we went to the pediatrician, I took the thermometer with me.
Hers (also ear) showed 36.4 and ours showed 37.6 or higher, I don't remember exactly.
I don't know if I will even bother to send it for inspection, I'm just sorry that it didn't turn out well.
If it was reliable, it would make temperature measurement for young children really easy.

  • It is the second one I buy, the first one we dropped and broke. I have it since my children were born and I wouldn't change it for anything. Do not compare, as for whether it shows more, I always try it on myself to see how much it shows. Also, you should change the spare part and not clean it with alcohol, it distorts the plastic. The only thing you simply have to keep in mind is not to measure from that ear that the child has slept on and has raised the temperature. Some comments I read about nails are not even true. I have had it for 6 years

The first time I bought it and compared it to the mercury one, it was reliable. After 1 year of use, it shows more. Now I have had it for 2 years and it shows 0.7 more, which if someone has a normal temperature, they think it has a decimal

It is what you expect from such a thermometer. I use it on my children with ease, knowing that it always shows 0.4 degrees higher. If it shows that they have a fever, then for certainty I use a regular thermometer. It is super useful for children under 4 years old who refuse to use any thermometer. I recommend it!

It takes a few experiments until you learn how to handle it correctly. In general, what I saw written in other comments is true, that it shows 0.4 degrees higher than the mercury in the armpit. The temperature in the ear is always higher than in the armpit. Also, for greater accuracy, keep it in the ear for a few seconds before pressing the temperature measurement button.

I can't believe that we bought this thermometer for so much money from the pharmacy and it shows a different temperature from one ear to the other. You have to repeat the measurement several times because it has large deviations. I'm testing it on a 5-month-old baby. It's not enough that you're already anxious if your child has a fever, you can't even figure out how much it is. I could understand it for a 5 euro thermometer. When you buy this specific one, you expect a reliable answer. Yes, it's fast but you waste time repeating the measurements, so it's a gift without value.

At first, we were excited about the ease of measurements until we realized the deviation it has from a regular thermometer, about 0.5, completely unreliable. The worst part was that it broke within 3 years, it was purchased for 60 euros.

You need to measure 3/4 times. Depending on how it is positioned, it gives a different measurement. Once you gain some experience, you start to trust it. I would have expected it to be better.

The thermometer is very good. Our pediatrician uses the same one. In general, with ear measurements, the thermometer shows -4. For example, if it shows 37.4, the correct temperature is 37. Also, in the instructions, it says that the thermometer should be warmed up at the tip before inserting it into the ear. So, hold it in your hand for a few seconds before taking the temperature and use good batteries, not imitations, because the device will break and not show accurate measurements. 4 stars because personally, it seems expensive.

It is good for an electronic thermometer. What does this mean? It means that it is not reliable. I take 3-4 measurements and get an average each time as the deviation can be from 37.5 to 38.2, etc.

I bought it to replace a cheaper Braun that was even more unreliable.

In general, stay away from it for high fevers. Also, if the baby has any ear infection, it is completely unreliable.

If it was -15/20 euros, I would give it more credit.

It only serves as something to give you an indication, it is not reliable at all, not even this one or any other in the end.

This thermometer has a PRETTY GOOD accuracy, as I have repeatedly compared it with mercury and there is a deviation of 0.1C (with or without fever).

HOWEVER, in order to achieve this accuracy, there is a small trick. You don't just put it in your ear and press the button, as the instructions say. You put it in your ear, wait for 10-12 seconds (I know it's difficult for a small child, but with a little effort, it can be done) AND THEN you press the button. With this method, one measurement is enough, instead of 3-4 with averages, etc. Those of you who have it and are dissatisfied with its accuracy, try it and you will remember me. I was ready to throw it away due to large deviations and for fun, I tried it and it has a big difference.

I believe they should write it in the instructions or have a longer delay when pressing the button for the result to give an accurate measurement. Rushing probably got the best of them to be considered a fast thermometer.

At first, when we bought it, it worked (let's say) without having a sick person to check the high temperature. So we were impressed with the speed of measurement and the quality of construction. It does have a half unit deviation from mercury as it is not easy to put it completely inside a baby who moves all the time in order to be accurate.
After a short period of use, however (just 2 months!), it started showing a permanent temperature of 36 degrees, whether in an adult or a child. We sent it for service after changing the batteries previously, and they told us that the sensor is fine. Just to inform you, we follow the instructions for use.
I would say it is completely unreliable and I would not recommend it for its price.

We only use it for the child, so we leave the same replacement on top and simply clean it with a little cotton and alcohol.

It is very fast and if there is proper contact with the child's ear, we get a measurement with satisfactory accuracy. The fear we had from the beginning that we might chase after the ear was not confirmed. The measurement is very quick and if the child sees it as a little game, they don't resist at all.

As for concerns about accuracy in measurements, what matters during the measurement is whether the child has a high fever or not, not whether they have 38.3 or 38.6, the ± 0.3 does not change the condition from non-problematic to problematic. You will receive the information if the child has a fever reliably from this specific device. However, if you want to know the temperature with absolute accuracy, then you go for armpit thermometers, nothing else provides the accuracy, but it is not necessary in 99% of cases.

Very good device. The accuracy in measurements is a bit strange because it can show 38.4 in one ear and 38.6 in the other, but that doesn't matter as the pediatrician told us. The deviation is small and what matters is whether the screen turns red, orange, or green. We only give fever medicine when the screen turns red and only if the child feels bad and whines. If they are in a good mood, you can choose not to give medicine even if it's above 38. I recommend it and it has been helpful to me.

In a 2-year-old girl, it measured 39.6°C while 3 different digital armpit thermometers were playing between 38.4°C - 38.5°C. Just what it takes to disturb 2 parents at 03:00 in the morning.
It is resistant to falls, very fast in measurement (1.5 sec) and its build quality is excellent. Unfortunately, it fails in the most essential category: accurate temperature measurement.
    I do not recommend it.

I have had this thermometer for over a year. It is accurate. I have checked it by taking temperature with a mercury thermometer. I always take temperature from both ears of the children. Sometimes there is a slight deviation of 0.2 degrees. However, this happens because the child was lying on the corresponding side. At high temperatures (38.5 and above), it is absolutely accurate. In contrast to digital armpit thermometers

Purchased for use on a three-year-old child in order to provide quick measurements. This specific thermometer is only suitable for very general measurements. Unfortunately, when you need to know the exact temperature of a child, it is at least disappointing. The deviations of the measurements are large and above one degree and vary depending on the placement inside the ear. No matter how accurately the instructions for use are followed, the information you will ultimately receive is useless. So, whether I like it or not, I ended up again with the reliable "old-fashioned" mercury. The build quality is excellent and the measurement is done in one and a half seconds. I do not recommend it and if I could return it, I would. Price 45€.

Owner of this particular model, extremely dissatisfied and disappointed for the money I invested in an otherwise reliable brand. Just a few words without embellishments. 1) At least 5 measurements to find the average. 2) When I tried to find customer service, maybe for some calibration service, I ended up after numerous failed attempts of phone communication, in communication via email where they responded immediately, to inform me that Helen of Troy is the official representative of Braun thermometers and they also provide technical support. The website doesn't even have Greek... Never again Braun... stay away.
