Description

A girl of eleven is sexually abused by her stepfather, a man she loves and trusts. A man whom everyone considers trustworthy, responsible, and a good father.

Only when adolescence ends and the stepfather has financially destroyed the family, condemning his stepdaughters to eternal debts, does Mimi find the courage to speak to her mother about the abuse. Unfortunately, she does not find the understanding and support she expects. As the author emphasizes: "I want to scream! I want to release the anger that suffocates me - my own and that of all the girls, women, boys, and men who have been abused and have been deprived even of the right to be angry about it."

"Blasphemy" tells the true story of Dimitra Patrikarakou, a woman who has the courage to speak openly about one of the greatest taboos in Greek society: intrafamily sexual abuse. She chooses to use her real name and reveal the family's secrets, firstly because only through the truth can justice be restored, but mainly because she wants to renounce the shame that is socially imposed on abuse victims.

"Blasphemy" is the first Greek book that speaks openly about sexual abuse within the family, a phenomenon much more common than we would like to believe...

Review this product
  • Shocking book, I decided to read it after a similar case I recently learned about and it truly captivated me. It's unbelievable that literally someone you think would never harm you would do these things to you. I believe that similar books should be taught in schools to prevent such situations, so that children learn from a young age how to recognize abusive behaviors and not become victims, with many of them being stigmatized for the rest of their lives, even to the point of ending their lives.
