Description

If you could read my thoughts, you wouldn't be smiling. At first glance, Samantha McAllister looks like the other popular girls in her class. But behind her straightened hair and careful makeup lies a secret her friends would never understand: Sam has obsessive-compulsive disorder.

She is plagued by dark thoughts and worries that she can't stop. Her constant doubts about every move, thought, and word make her daily life very difficult, and the fact that the friends she's known her whole life will turn toxic at the first wrong outfit, the first wrong food, the first wrong crush doesn't help at all.

And yet Sam knows it would be sheer madness to leave the protection of the most popular girls in school. So when she meets Caroline, who has a great sense of humor but no style, she has to keep their friendship a secret, just as she keeps her visits to the psychiatrist secret. Caroline takes Sam to the Poet's Corner, a hidden room and a close-knit group of misfits that the school ignores.

Slowly, she begins to feel more 'normal' than she ever did among the popular kids until she finds a new reason to doubt her mental health and everything she loves. A story about love, friendship, and the importance of accepting ourselves as we are.
