LeBron didn't have to look far to find the muse for his shoe: his eight-year-old daughter, Zhuri. LeBron is the protector of his daughter, who has helped the King evolve as a person and soften as a father. He feels the need to always protect her, in the same way that an oyster surrounds a pearl until it fully matures. The exposed construction on the side of the heel has an appearance reminiscent of a shell. The perforated foam tongue with quilted stitching also refers to a shell, while ensuring a soft feel.

The warm hue around the Swoosh design refers to the fibers found in the shell of the oyster, which protect the Akoya to create the pearl. The leather exterior refers to the classic charm of the Akoya.

A Zoom Air unit in the heel and forefoot supports landing and provides a sense of propulsion. 

Nike combined them with soft and flexible foam in the sole for an incredibly soft feel.

The multidimensional mesh material on the upper is durable and stable. The lightweight upper materials also feature stripes resembling shell ridges, while simultaneously holding the foot during explosive movements. 

Perforations in zones on the double mesh material and ventilation elements on both sides ensure air circulation.

"As we took our next steps from the LeBron XX, we were inspired by how LeBron maintains his body and game during the offseason," says Jason Petrie, lead designer of the LeBron XXI. 

"His coach says it's like taking care of a Formula 1 car. You tune the car between each race. You don't need to completely rebuild the car. We wanted to keep some of the elements we know he loved, like the Zoom Turbo unit, but improve some of the finishes on the upper part".
