Providing excellent performance and outstanding image quality for both photos and videos, the new Exmor R CMOS™ 33.0 megapixel image sensor of the a7C II offers high-speed readout, high sensitivity from ISO 100 to ISO 51200, low noise, and exceptionally accurate color reproduction.

Using the latest processing engine combined with an advanced AE algorithm, the α7C II can detect the skin area of faces and adjust the exposure accordingly for both photos and movies. It achieves consistent exposure control even in challenging shooting conditions, when the subject is backlit, in shadows or direct sunlight, or not facing directly towards the camera.

Lossless RAW image compression provides efficient compression for smaller file sizes without loss of image quality, allowing the camera to shoot up to 27 frames in continuous bursts. There are three sizes of lossless compression images (S / M / L) to suit any application, and a light image quality option is provided that produces less data for JPEG and HEIF images.

The α7C II offers 4K 60p/50p video recording with full pixel readout and no pixel binning, utilizing the latest BIONZ XR processing engine and its wide dynamic range to produce exceptionally smooth images of fast-moving subjects. When recording 4K movies at 30p resolution, 7K full-frame oversampling provides 4K resolution with enhanced sharpness and detail.

10-bit 4:2:2 recording within the camera is available when using Long GOP or All-Intra compression, making color grading possible for fuller, more natural gradations, generally providing greater editing freedom.

The active mode provides enhanced image stabilization for handheld shooting. A precision image stabilization unit, advanced gyroscopic sensors, and an optimized image stabilization algorithm work together for exceptionally smooth, stable video recording. In addition to this in-body stabilization, compatible lenses with their own built-in image stabilization coordinate with the camera body for highly effective control, allowing for sharper handheld telephoto shots.

With Breathing Compensation enabled, the α7C II uses Sony's original Clear Image Zoom technology to suppress focus breathing, allowing you to shoot movies with more stable images. Breathing metadata can also be used with the advanced breathing compensation capabilities of the latest Catalyst Browse/Prepare Plugin software during post-production.

The artificial intelligence processing unit supports the recognition of human subjects using human form and posture data, as well as the recognition of non-human subjects, such as animals, insects, and vehicles. This enhances the performance of Real-time Recognition AF and Real-time Tracking functions and makes the fast hybrid AF acquisition and tracking of subjects more accurate and reliable over a wider area.

The α7C II features a powerful AI processing unit capable of recognizing humans, animals, birds, insects, cars/trains, and airplanes. Animal recognition now identifies the eyes of certain grazing animals and small animals, in addition to the eyes and heads of dogs, cats, and similar animals. It can even recognize these animals when their eyes are hidden from view. The camera also comes with bird recognition, allowing it to detect the eyes of various types of birds, as well as recognize the heads and bodies of birds.

Using AI-based subject recognition technology, the Auto Framing function automatically crops for optimal framing when shooting movies. Even when the camera is mounted on a tripod, the framing is continuously adjusted so that the recorded footage looks like the subject is being tracked by a camera operator. Precise tracking is possible even when the camera is operated remotely via the creators' app on a smartphone.

Equipped with the latest AF algorithms, the a7C II achieves high AF accuracy in lighting levels as low as EV -4.0 in AF-S mode (equivalent to ISO 100, F2.0 lens). It also includes a focus priority function that provides more reliable AF in low-light conditions or when using smaller apertures.

The XGA OLED electronic viewfinder with approximately 2.36 million dots and 0.70x magnification offers high resolution and contrast for bright, clear viewing, even in bright sunlight. The finder frame rate can be set to [High] (120 fps), double the normal frame rate, for smooth viewfinder image with minimal screen motion blur when tracking and shooting moving subjects.

The α7C II is designed to provide you with a secure, stable, and comfortable grip. Alternatively, attach a newly developed removable grip extension (sold separately) for maximum comfort and minimal fatigue during long shoots.

A side-opening vari-angle screen provides easier positioning and framing freedom for handheld and gimbal shots, for very low ground level shots, offering you a plethora of creative options.
