I would not recommend it for any child as I, as an adult, was shocked by the descriptions of raw violence against defenseless animals and could not continue reading until the end.. if this book is considered "children's" with symbolic -educational content about racism, etc., in my humble opinion, we have lost all measure and we are playing with fire by giving our children a book that disturbs their sensitive soul.. I wonder..

It is an excellent book with the characteristic writing of my beloved author. I would not recommend it for children under the age of 12 or 14, as it contains quite descriptive violent scenes. However, it is an exceptional read as a gift for anyone who has lost their humanity or has been nurtured to "hide" it. Especially for us Greeks, who, unfortunately, I realize, are an extremely inhospitable and xenophobic people.

I had read it before when I was little. One of my favorite books and definitely a gem in my library. It has harsh descriptions of violence at certain points, but if you think about it, it sends a strong message against racism. It couldn't not have such descriptions. I plan on reading it together with my daughter when she grows up and in this way, explain to her how bad racism and discrimination are.

A allegorical fairy tale that presents and challenges the reader with the problems of this era and all times. Harsh, moving, realistic, excellent!

A book for +15 years old that bluntly explains how sad it is not to accept diversity. I gave it a 4 out of 5 because I got a little tired of its writing style. Otherwise, very good.

I would give it 4 out of 5 stars if it wasn't in "children's" books, because it is well-written like all books by the same author. But for a children's book, it is unacceptable to describe scenes of raw violence and barbarism against defenseless animal protagonists. My child was psychologically traumatized reading it. The animals are tortured and die one by one, and moreover, with gruesome methods. I consider the point where the grandmothers in the playground stuck knitting needles in the eyes of the cats to be a sadistic climax.

Incredibly smart book, my daughter enjoyed it and I believe that for every child it is an opportunity to see today's reality in the best way. Choose it for your children or as a gift and read it yourself too!!!!
