[...] All of the above peculiarities make regional analysis quite complex, resulting in the need for the development of appropriate methods and techniques, technological and other tools, sufficient and appropriate regional data and research management infrastructure, along with the development of theoretical backgrounds.

This volume aims to contribute to addressing the complexity of regional analysis, as presented above, by publishing articles with economic, social, demographic, environmental, and other scientific approaches, as required by the interdisciplinary nature of regional science. The contributions mainly consist of empirical analysis applications using conventional or innovative methods and techniques, proposals for new analysis tools and technological means, as well as the development of research infrastructure and support systems for regional planning and local development.

An attempt is made to classify the articles into two levels, which are also included in the title, namely Methods and techniques of spatial analysis and the tools/systems used, although in many cases, as is natural, these are involved in the same article due to the empirical nature of the approaches. The criterion for classifying an article in one or the other category, in these cases, is the importance given to the article in each of them.

In this context, the following is an analytical presentation of the contributions of this volume, which we believe will confirm the qualities we attributed to it above. [...]
