"Music, some claim, has a direct impact on the biology of animals (including humans). I don't know if this is true, but it played a significant role in my research in genetics for decades, as I would constantly listen to classical music, mainly operas, every morning at the office until I left. So, it is logical to some extent that I based the structure of this book on the small pieces written by Rossini when he was, like me now, in his old age. I followed a similar lightness in addressing the topics as in the songs and short piano works that Rossini collectively named 'Gerontological Sins'. These diverse topics do not have an obvious coherence among them. Or rather, they do, as they have captivated my interest for decades: from delayed autopsies for centuries to tomatoes, eye cells, doctors, the Ionian Islands, and many more...
