The present volume constitutes a significant contribution to the acquaintance with the Arab world. The compilation of important writings by leading intellectuals, thinkers, and historians of post-revolutionary Egypt offers the maximum for in-depth research into modern Egyptian history, with the signature of those individuals who, each from their own position and perspective, shaped and formed contemporary Arab and specifically Egyptian society.
The decision of my dear student Kyriakos Th. Nikolau-Patragas - now a brilliant scientist with a valuable, precious, and original work - to undertake this endeavor deserves great praise. Because he seeks and achieves a dual purpose through it: on the one hand, to offer the non-Arabic-speaking but specialized scientific community significant sources of modern Arab history in impeccable translation, and on the other hand, to compose through them a whole corpus that enlightens the non-specialist reader about the history of the spirit and ideological fermentations and conflicts in the blessed Arab land.
I thank my student for his honorary dedication of this volume to me and congratulate him for his effort, which I hope will bear fruit.
