Description

Chile, 1986. Augusto Pinochet, the country's despised dictator, has probably begun to foresee the end of his reign. During that decisive year, the Manuel Rodríguez Patriotic Front is preparing an attempt against him. In an atmosphere of absolute terror, in the poor neighborhoods of the capital, Santiago, which is ablaze with mobilizations and protests, the anti-regime guerrillas try to hide their weapons in safe places. In such a neighborhood lives the Crazy One, a middle-aged homosexual who spends his days embroidering divine tablecloths and passionately listening to boleros. At some point, he agrees to store some mysterious boxes in his house, which will be brought there by Carlos, a young and handsome student. As events unfold, the lives of the protagonists will take unpredictable paths and change in ways neither of them imagines. However, there is also a common, ambiguous, and doubtful path between the smile and the tear. A different novel about the relationship between love and revolution by Pedro Lemebel, a manifesto for the subversive power of tenderness.
