My Report to Greco is not an autobiography; my personal life has some, very relative, value only to me, to no one else. The only value I recognize in it is this: the struggle to climb from step to step and reach as high as my strength and determination could take me – to the peak I arbitrarily named Cretan Gaze.

So, reader, you will find in these pages the red line, made from drops of my blood, marking my journey among people, passions, and ideas.

Every person worthy of being called a son of man carries their cross and climbs their Golgotha. Many, most, reach the first, the second step, pant, collapse halfway through the journey, and do not reach the peak of Golgotha – I mean the peak of their duty – to be crucified, resurrected, and save their soul. They lose heart, fear crucifixion, and do not know that crucifixion is the only path to resurrection; there is no other.
