The police need Harry Hole because a killer is roaming the streets of Oslo and murdering police officers. Specifically, the victims are found at crime scenes they failed to solve. The murders are violent and the media's reaction is hysterical. The eternal Harry, a detective by nature, has been involved in all major crime investigations in Oslo in recent years. With his very personal sense of justice guiding him, loyal to what he loves and determined to defend it, this time he seems lost and helpless. Will he manage to surpass himself once again as the wreck of his personal life has sunk him to the bottom?

Perhaps the most disappointing book by Jo Nesbo featuring the character Harry Hole. The story is long and lacking in many points. Perhaps the main reason was the adoption of a narrative that works well in movies but loses a lot in writing, or at least in this particular book. The ending, honestly, couldn't be more cliché. I thought I was reading a Harlequin novel, unless the author intends to deconstruct the character from the first page of the next book. I also found the "exit" of some key characters in the series to be very poorly executed, but I can't dwell on it too much because it would be a major spoiler. This particular book seems to be the middle of a mini trilogy (possibly even more) and I have the impression that it wasn't the best connecting link. I hope THIRST, which is the next one, proves to be a better continuation.
Together with Thirst, I think it is the best Nesbo's book with the protagonist being Hole.
