I replaced my 9T Pro with the 12 Pro+. I've had it for three days now and the first impressions are very good.
Positives:
- Very good screen with the option for 120Hz. In terms of color selection, I choose the normal one because I'm not a fan of oversaturated colors. This is purely subjective.
- The camera is quite good for both photos and videos, maintaining the right proportions. The advertised 200MP is just marketing hype, but regardless, the photo quality is satisfying. The only downside is that it only supports 4K at 30Hz, while my previous 9T Pro, which I bought about 3.5 years ago, had the ability to shoot 4K at 60Hz.
- The fingerprint sensor is on the side, not on the screen, but it is very fast, almost instantaneous.
- It has stereo speakers that are of satisfactory volume and quality, supporting Dolby Atmos. They do the job as a simple pair of speakers. Ultimately, I don't think anyone has high expectations for music playback from a mobile phone's speakers.
- It has a 3.5mm audio jack.
- It has an IR blaster, but it only works accurately when you aim it precisely at the device you want to control. I don't know if this is due to the case I'm using, which was included in the package. With my previous Galaxy S6, it had a wider range.
- The package includes a transparent case that does its job, but I don't know if it will turn yellow over time.
- The package also includes a 120W charger, which I used only for the initial charge, and it went from 52% to 100% very quickly. I didn't time it, but it was fast. For regular charging, I will use a 35W charger, and my opinion is that everyone should do the same unless you're someone who changes devices every year. The 120W charger puts a lot of strain on the battery and reduces its lifespan. Use it only when you're pressed for time.
Negatives:
- When you hold the device, although it is heavy, you realize that it's not the most premium-feeling. Yes, it's sturdy, but because I've held flagship devices, I notice something different, like it has more plastic. I don't know.
- The processor... the Dimensity is good, but it's not Snapdragon in terms of performance or battery management. Period. To explain, it doesn't lag or create any problems, but someone coming from a good Snapdragon processor will notice the difference.
I can't say anything about the battery because in the three days I've had it, I can't draw any conclusions. It lasts, it's powerful, but the real test is how long it will maintain these characteristics over time.
I bought the phone for 347 euros, and at this price, it's a great value for money and an excellent overall choice. I have the impression that at this price, you can't get anything better.
****EDIT****
After almost a month of using the phone, I want to mention the following:
- The battery is fine. The only issue I notice is when I enable 5G, the battery life decreases, as is the case with almost all phones. Personally, I have 4G enabled, and it's working perfectly for me.
- The screen brightness is not as good as my previous device, the 9T Pro. When I am outdoors working with the 12 Pro, I have the brightness bar set to about halfway and slightly higher depending on the sunlight, while under the same conditions with my previous device, I was below the halfway mark. I don't know if this difference is due to the screen protector I have installed for protection.
--The photos are very good, always maintaining proportions, but they give them more brightness than they should, they don't overexpose them, but someone who is more involved with photography, etc., will find it a bit too much. This happens in all shots, whether day or night. This phenomenon is slightly more pronounced in HD shots.
--The quality of 4K video is mediocre, personally I would say it disappointed me. I have the impression that this situation is not so much due to the 30 fps as it is due to the lack of stabilization, and that's a big flaw. Personally, I didn't like the clarity of the 4K that was supposed to be superior to 1080p. My videos are 1080p at 60 fps and I am very satisfied.
--There is no LED notifications, something that all my previous devices had and I found very useful. Unless it exists and I can't figure out how to activate it. There is a faint light along the entire vertical line of the screen and from both sides for notifications, but when I activate battery saving mode (which I have permanently enabled), this specific function is not available.
