[...] The goal of the activities proposed in this book is to activate the natural abilities of young children, which can be awakened as a result of stimulating their interest, curiosity, and imagination. In this case, it should be noted that this pedagogical approach adopts the basic principles of the interdisciplinary unified curriculum framework of the preschool education program. This approach allows educators, after considering the possibilities offered by the broader learning environment, to choose the letter and corresponding activities that align with their program's objectives, thus supporting every interdisciplinary learning strategy.
Based on the above, the design and development of the activities proposed for each letter of the book are developed around the following axes:
1) Child and language (oral communication, writing):
As young children are encouraged in the process of writing letters, they effortlessly come into contact with spoken language and develop the ability to narrate and participate in discussions. This process offers opportunities not only for the educator to tell them a story but also for the children themselves to create their own or to make assumptions about the beginning or end of it.
2) Child, creation, and expression (development of visual arts activities):
The activities accompanying each letter, on the other hand, provide opportunities for the development
of their artistic abilities because they are encouraged:
a) to mold shapes with clay and form them into letters,
b) to use various materials to decorate the large capital
letters as they wish, developing the ability to invent designs and techniques, to draw
and paint, and c) to develop skills in shaping various types of lines, outlines, and forms.
The proposed activities, as a result of research and pilot application, have shown highly encouraging results in that they can highlight the innate natural abilities of young children, provide many opportunities for graphic experimentation, and suitably prepare them for successful integration into this field of learning.
