Description

This new edition of the Modern Era includes 3 texts by Lenin written after the victory of the October Revolution. They are three battle texts that simultaneously shed light on many theoretical issues about the state, while containing timeless arguments in the struggle against the bourgeois class and opportunism.

The first text in the collection, "On the State," is a lecture given at the Sverdlov University in 1919, and theoretically and historically proves that every state is a dictatorship of a class, the ruling class.

The second text titled "Positions and Proposals on Bourgeois Democracy and the Dictatorship of the Proletariat" is a proposal by Lenin at the founding congress of the Communist International, where Lenin exposes the so-called "pure democracy" and emphasizes the class content of the concept of democracy. Lenin, contrary to the prejudices of bourgeois parliamentarism, highlights the institutions of proletarian power as a superior form of democracy.

The third text, titled "Elections for the Constituent Assembly and the Dictatorship of the Proletariat," was written in December 1919, approximately two years after the elections for the Constituent Assembly and the convening of the assembly itself. The All-Russian Central Executive Committee of the Soviets decided to dissolve the "Constituent Assembly" as a bourgeois body, thus defending proletarian power as a superior form of democracy. In response to this event, there was an outcry from the bourgeoisie and opportunists against the Bolsheviks and Soviet power. Lenin responds to all the accusations of the opportunists. This particular text also draws on the results of the elections for the Constituent Assembly and the statistics of the time, highlighting that the conquest of revolutionary power was not a numerical issue of an electoral contest. It also highlights the catalytic effect that the manifestation and triumph of the revolution and the deprivation of the means of production from the capitalists had on the consciousness of the working class and the people.
