Description

The goal of the book is to record the transition of Greek society during the years of the Metapolitefsi from cultural homogeneity to pluralistic heterogeneity and the shift of interest from politics to culture, which is now understood more anthropologically and biopolitically than humanistically. Without aspiring to be a complete study of Greek culture "from the junta to the crisis," the book constitutes a kind of cultural history and seeks to present a more multifaceted image of the period so as to highlight its diversity.

It discusses a range of important topics, such as antiquity, religion, language, literature, media, cinema, youth, gender, and sexuality, and examines critical issues in the attempt to map the Greek cultural development over the past fifty years. By posing the question of what is ultimately the main characteristic of the culture of the Metapolitefsi, it concludes that it is identities, as they condense the various stakes since 1974 and refer to a series of social and cultural developments.
