Spring of 1901, on the -fantastic- island of Mingker, between Crete and Cyprus. An outbreak of plague occurs on the island and quarantine is imposed. In order to contain the epidemic, Sultan Abdulhamit II sends the chief health inspector Bonkovski Pasha to Mingker, but he is soon murdered. The Sultan then assigns the young doctor Nouri the task of taking action. But the evil has taken root, the plague spreads rapidly despite strict measures, creating additional tensions between the Muslim and Christian inhabitants of the island. The incompetence of the local administration and the people's refusal to respect the prohibitions condemn the project to failure, while the madness of fear, intrigues, and nationalist prejudices prevail. Faced with the danger of uncontrolled spread of the epidemic, the Sultan succumbs to international pressure and decides to isolate the island. The inhabitants of Mingker must now find a way to defeat the plague on their own...
