The most wasted money I've ever spent.
Within the first month, the internal waterproofing started to deteriorate.
After the first rain, it started to look like it was toxic.
It never went in the washing machine.
I spoke to the store where I bought it, they told me they sent a photo to the company and they didn't recognize it as a problem.
I got it on sale for €45 and I can say that after a lot of searching, I couldn't find anything better. Initially, it fits very well. I am 1.80m and 80kg and the large size fits me perfectly. It has a waterproof rating of 10000mm, tested in heavy rain, where I stayed for about 10 minutes, and the sweatshirt I was wearing underneath remained completely dry. It also has a breathability rating of 8000, and indeed, during a 1-kilometer hike uphill with my 20-month-old daughter on my back (15kg including the carrier), I didn't feel my body overheating. It is also quite stylish for everyday use.
This is a waterproof shell-type jacket, meaning that besides the membrane, it does not have any internal lining to keep you warm or make contact with the skin comfortable. For this reason, I would recommend using it in combination with a long-sleeved baselayer that corresponds to the prevailing temperature. The feeling of the membrane on bare skin is not very pleasant, especially if you have been sweating.
I just bought it for the second time as the first one I had purchased 4-5 years ago reached the end of its life. I used it for hiking or mountain biking (only during descents or on days with strong wind and cold or when it's raining), but also in the city when conditions required it. It breathes better than a regular "plastic" waterproof jacket, but if you engage in intense activity, you will sweat. It breathes fine while walking.
In terms of waterproofing, it performs very well for its cost and specifications. The seams are covered with tape internally, so there are no leaks. However, over time and with washings, this property diminishes. The tapes on the seams dried out and peeled off/cut after such a long time and use. Although the label allows machine washing, I would recommend avoiding it. As long as I hand-washed it, it was fine, but after several machine washes + wear and tear, it lost almost all of its waterproofing. Of course, without fabric softener, which is prohibited for such fabrics.
Overall, my old Origin jacket had left me very satisfied. Its price, effectiveness in wind and rain, and the fact that you can pack it into its own pouch and it takes up minimal space make it a very practical technical garment. The Origin 2 has improved specifications in the membrane and some additional improvements in details (reflective strip on the back, fabric to prevent the zipper from bothering the neck when fastened, etc.). Additionally, the hood, which folds and hides in the collar, can be worn over a cycling helmet.
What could be better? The feeling on bare skin (difficult without lining) and perhaps something to help the hood maintain its shape when worn (some hoods have a wire sewn inside to assist).
