Description

"The Human Guards" is a battered book. How could it be otherwise? It was born under conditions of deep illegality, with only twenty-five copies, on an old mimeograph machine, in the foyer of a hotel.

And yet these few lines, so powerful, so moving (without a trace of melodrama!), managed to mark the beginning of the end of a brutal fascist dictatorship in Greece.

Since then, much water has flowed under the bridge, the book has achieved great success and multiple editions in Greece and around the world.

In each edition, there were Prefaces, Introductions, Epilogues, and Appendices that tried to update the book and highlight its unparalleled strength.

Today, two years after the death of Pericles Korovesis, the Editions of Colleagues present a comprehensive edition, which contains the most important texts written and incorporated into the body of "The Human Guards," as well as rich visual material with covers of foreign editions, publications from the international press, and the excellent sketches and photographs by Alekos Levidis from the reenactment of the tortures, which took place at the painter's house in Geneva in 1969, to accompany Korovesis's testimony to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.

Nice book that immerses you directly into the whole story it narrates. It shows you from within the experience of the people who went through the tortures of the Junta but also the contempt they received from the Left.
