Review this product
  • I made this review mainly so that no one gets confused and buys it for watercolors, as mentioned in another review here that it works fine for that too. 96gsm paper, for sketching, it doesn't even work well for dry media, as it shows through from the back immediately (ghosting). Will it work for watercolor? Let's not completely lose our minds!! It doesn't work, it can't, and it was never made for watercolors, with such thin thickness and made of paper!! These are purely for pencil, maybe charcoal, anything else, go for a different type of paper.

As for a proper review, this sketchbook, along with the Canson Artbook 180 (they have exactly the same paper, but the binding and closure system is different, one is classic with an elastic band, the other has an annoying magnet that constantly gets in the way and causes damage!) are considered among the best for dry media and even ballpoint pens like the Bic. It's not that they are the most high-quality papers, or that they have the best overall quality, it's that they have all the characteristics and performance, even the price, at a reasonable level. That's why people love them so much, and it's logical, since that's the purpose of such a book, to be handy, have plenty of pages, and be able to always have it with you for practice or to pass the time or to keep memories with sketches, etc. For higher-quality paper, if you are more advanced and depending on what medium you use more frequently, there are the Hahnemuhle Sketchbooks, Nostalgie: for pens/ink, the Sketchbook 120gsm: amazing for dry media (charcoal, pencil, Red Chalk (Sanguine), Sepia, etc.). They also have two different qualities of sketchbooks for watercolor, which by far have the best paper quality in the world for watercolor (the cheaper one doesn't have the best, but not the worst paper, while the expensive one is perfect for professional colors). These are by far the best classic type of sketchbooks, there are many more, some worse, some relatively good, having tried everything since I've been sketching since the 80s using all wet and dry media, I am sure that these are objectively the best and not just a personal opinion. The French and Germans generally produce the best papers, followed by the English (Saunders Waterford), then the Italians (Fabriano), and finally the Americans, with Legion, Strathmore, etc.
