Description

Dante Alighieri, as the foremost Italian poet, wrote The Divine Comedy (La Divina Commedia) between 1308-1321, which is recognized as one of the most important works of world literature.

In his narrative poetic composition, centuries later, Dante reveals with an incomparably creative conception, rich meanings of spiritual ascent and divine revelation, while simultaneously reflecting the political and historical climate of his time, the human being as a whole, the wisdom and passions of the classical medieval world, unveiling the historical period unfolding before him. The symbolism and precise use of elements enrich the entire work.

The Divine Comedy consists of three parts, Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso - and narrates Dante's imaginary journey through the realm of the dead, guided by his mentor, the poet Virgil, and his youthful love, Beatrice.

It includes the original illustrations by Gustave Doré, and over 2800 explanatory footnotes.

The rating refers to the edition and not the content itself, since little can be said about this classic work.

This specific edition is a bad translation from English, which often makes the text incomprehensible. The paper is of low quality and the page decorations look like imitations.

On the positive side, the hardcover and illustrations are good.

I would prefer an edition that respects the Greek audience, or alternatively an English one.
