We all have something to say to those who are no longer here... On the rocky slope of Whale Mountain (Kujira-yama) in Japan, there is a vast garden named Bell Gardia. In the middle of the garden, there is a telephone booth with a phone inside, but it has no telephone connection. This phone carries voices through the wind. Every year, thousands of people gather there to pick up the receiver and talk to their loved ones who are no longer on earth... One day, amidst a terrifying storm, a woman arrives. Her name is Yui, she is thirty years old, and one date separates what she once was from what she is now: March 11, 2011. On that day, the tsunami wiped out her village, swallowed her mother and daughter, depriving her of the joy of life. Learning by chance about the existence of this surreal place, Yui goes to visit it and at Bell Gardia, she meets Takeshi, a doctor who lives in Tokyo and has a four-year-old daughter who has been mute since the day her mother died. "What We Entrust to the Wind" is a book about a real place, a source of inspiration for a story that is hard to forget, about all levels of pain, the sweet lightness of love, and our need to keep in our hearts those who have left.
