From the mid-1990s, Greece has experienced almost every year mobilizations of farmers, which often exceed geographical limitations and spread throughout the country with significant dynamism and unprecedented forms of action. Who are these farmers, where do they come from, and to what historical movement do they refer? What are the roots of their movement and its historical continuity? How do the forms and outbreaks or declines of the agricultural movement relate to the adventures and phases of the gradual integration of Greek society and the national state? What is the position of the Greek agricultural movement in the rich, centuries-old history of uprisings by land cultivators worldwide? These are some of the questions that the analyses included in this volume attempt to answer, seeking, amidst social, economic, political, and cultural changes, the deconstructions and restructurings in the historical course of Greek society, the position and role of farmers and their movement in the important stages of the formation or upheaval of society.
