If they are inserted correctly, they cut off the sound perfectly for what they promise (snoring, ambient noises, etc.) leaving you able to hear alarms, etc. The problem they have is that after occasional use, it seemed that they are not at all durable: While I was careful, the edge that you pull to remove them was cut. Very good, they do the job if you wear them correctly: with the special tool you have to put them deep inside the ear, twisting them like screwing in a screw.
