Stefanos-Konstantinos Theotokis was born in Corfu in 1872 and came from a wealthy aristocratic family. He studied literature, languages, mathematics, chemistry, and physics in Paris and German universities. His erudition was so great that he was fluent in six spoken languages (Italian, French, German, English, Hebrew) and four dead languages (Ancient Greek, Latin, Ancient Persian, Sanskrit), which allowed him to engage in translations.
Representative of the Ionian School, an intellectual influenced by socialist ideas, he wrote a groundbreaking book for his time called "Honor and Money," condemning the political system as well as the prevailing social situation in Corfu. In his book, he records the influence of money on people, how it distorts emotions, and destroys even the closest relationships.
He mainly focused on prose, but he also wrote 32 sonnets in the field of poetry. He died in poverty on July 1, 1923, in Corfu.
