The pages of the edition wonderfully take the reader on a journey through the brothels of Vourla, the Lemonades, the rebetiko music, the tekkes, the cabarets, and the Lamarenes. Next to the social margins, the port of toil and the refugees, squeezed in the area's factories, struggled for their difficult everyday life and uncertain future.

A future that was envisioned differently by the imprisoned revolutionary fighters of the Piraeus courts. The author's research is comprehensive and methodologically sound. He approaches the sources critically and sympathetically. He enriches the vivid text with oral interviews, highlighting them not only as valuable historical evidence but also as carriers of lively and gripping storytelling that captivate the reader.
