The "Great Etymological Dictionary" (or "Great Etymologist") was compiled in the 10th-11th century. The lexicographer, who is unknown, used as sources Diogenianus, Horus, Stephanus Byzantius, etc.
In addition to the variety of etymologies it contains, its lexicographic material and the excerpts from works it presents - many of which are lost - give the "Great Etymological Dictionary" special importance.
The first edition of this dictionary is attributed to Marco Musurus (Venice, 1499).
