Description

The invisible thread that connects wiretapping, pipeline diplomacy, natural gas, the deadly fires of 2007, threats against the former prime minister, the veto in Bucharest, Vatopedi, and December 2008 is unraveled for the first time through a multitude of documents and legal texts...shedding light on the real protagonists as well as all forms of ambitions during the governance of Kostas Karamanlis.

The Confidential Karamanlis Files attempt a second reading of the critical milestones of the 2004-2009 governance, capturing converging and diverging strategies, attitudes, and resistances of domestic and foreign political forces, goals, and prospects for Greece and Europe, placing at the center of the reading the new energy map and the redistribution of natural resources in the Euro-Russian zone and the Eastern Mediterranean.

Unknown documents, testimonial statements, legal and diplomatic texts come to light for the first time, composing the mosaic of Karamanlis's governance, a period that "sealed" Greek politics in the early 21st century. People, forces, institutional and non-institutional centers emerge through a gripping narrative, which illuminates the unseen aspects of Kostas Karamanlis's governmental period, revealing the causal relationships and strong motives for its accelerating decline.

Extremely interesting and easy to read, despite the abundance of information. Very good writing, as expected from M. Kottakis. Regardless of the reader's political stance - and mine is not at all close to that of Mr. Kottakis - it is worth reading.

Book that leaves you speechless. Every modern conscious Greek should read it to understand the games our American friends are playing and the arrogant position we would be in today with all this current events if we had followed the path of the Karamanlis government as a state. The majority of the presented information is true, with evidence presented in the book. It is not the easiest read as it requires concentration to understand, but it is worth the time you will dedicate.
