Relatively isolated from the rest of the Greek islands and in a unique geographical position, Kythera has been a unique example of the fusion of elements from diverse cultural pairs: mainland and island Greece, Western Europe and the East, the Ionian and the Aegean Sea. Thus, they formed a "endemic" but at the same time universal cultural idiom that embraces a multitude of diverse traditions and influences.
