In the spring of 1821, at the moment when the first sparks of the Greek Revolution ignite in the Peloponnese, the editors of the Enlightenment magazine "Melissa" from Paris announce in the third and final issue of their publication a competition with unprecedented anti-clerical content.

The shocking historical document of this unfinished competition - the magazine ceased its operation due to the start of the Struggle - marks the culmination of the long-standing ideological conflict between the Greek Enlighteners and the Patriarchate of Constantinople.

It is a fact that the bicentennial anniversary of the outbreak of the 1821 Revolution does not find the national organism in a state that justifies enthusiasm and celebrations. However, the more unfavorable the state of the nation may be evaluated, the more imperative the need for a deeper and more radical rethinking of the messages that the national rebirth has bequeathed to the entities responsible for the historical vindication of that heroic endeavor appears.
