The sailor Edmond Dantes is arrested just before his wedding to Catalan Mercedes, on charges of treason, and is taken to the fortress of If, while his loved ones are unaware of his fate. There, one step before resigning from life, he meets the abbe Faria, who teaches him and tells him about the treasure hidden on the island of Monte Cristo. Dantes escapes and presents himself as Count Monte Cristo, to seek revenge against those who wanted his destruction.
