Lenny turned his head and looked toward the opposite shore of the lake and up toward the darkened slopes of the Gabilan mountains. 'We'll have some land,' George began. He put his hand in his side pocket and pulled out Carlson's Luger."

In the America of the interwar period, during the Great Depression, the giant and simple-minded Lenny and the small and clever George wander from place to place, drifters, looking for work. Lenny cannot distinguish right from wrong and likes to touch soft things – the fur of an animal, a girl's hair. The two mismatched but inseparable friends find work on a farm, and there, due to the beautiful wife of the malicious Curley, who is the boss's son, a tragedy unfolds.

"Of Mice and Men" is a harsh yet deeply human story of shattered dreams. Since its publication in 1937, it has been performed countless times in the theater, adapted for film and television, and is considered one of the undeniable masterpieces of 20th-century American literature.
