Saturday, October 14. Cardiology clinic, University Hospital, Copenhagen. A nurse fills a syringe with an overdose of cardiology medication and enters the room of an elderly patient.
Monday, six days earlier. A courier is making his deliveries in downtown Copenhagen when he comes across a macabre discovery: the naked body of a dead woman in a fountain on the main pedestrian street. Strange, symmetrical cuts cover her skin.
Cause of death: exsanguination. Inspector Jeppe Kørner takes on the case, but this time he doesn't have his colleague Anette Werner by his side. She is on maternity leave, or rather, she should be. The investigation leads Kørner into the depths of the healthcare system. It is a world where care seemingly prevails, but ambitions, passions, and interests lie beneath the surface.
Meanwhile, Werner is secretly conducting her own investigation. However, she has no idea what danger she is putting herself in. Her path will soon cross with Kørner's, and together they will discover that they are at the mercy of a decaying system that harbors a killer, while the countdown to the next murder is ticking. The noose tightens, but around whose neck will it close?
