1821. The Ottoman Empire is shaken by the Greek Revolution, as the Greeks strive to throw off the Turkish yoke after four hundred years of slavery.
At the same time, in Constantinople, at the British Embassy, the philhellene doctor Benjamin Black has an important mission assigned to him by Lord Elgin from London: to discover the lost statue of a beautiful Aphrodite.
