Two XA (extreme aspherical) elements in the G Master design take advantage of the short rear distance without a mirror, for impressive contrast and resolution in a small lens. The superior optical quality of the lens is further enhanced by the ED (extra-low dispersion) glass element and Sony's Nano AR Coating II, which maintains excellent image clarity in all lighting conditions.

The XA elements prevent onion ring background defocusing, the 11-blade mechanism creates an almost circular aperture, even with the lens fully open, and the strict control of spherical aberration in design and construction contributes to beautiful bokeh with F1.4. The design and construction improvements offer a minimum focusing distance of 27 cm and a maximum magnification of x0.23.
