With a total of 288 pages and 2 full-color sixteen-page sections, with hundreds of rare historical images and numerous (and vivid) short stories from 1821, it highlights the unseen side of 1821. By reading the remaining Kolokotronis, beyond purely revolutionary "reports," the reader has access to a plethora of "details" that official history systemically conceals, such as:
• That in his Memoirs, Germanos of Old Patras himself does not mention anywhere that he declared the Revolution: "Common sense says that if he had declared a Revolution... he would remember it." Right?
• That the rage of the revolutionaries was not limited to the enemy's women and children, there was no mercy for any of them. Extremely shocking for these horrific days of revenge is the testimony of the young officer Brengeri, who witnessed the atrocities and massacre of the captive Turkish Corinthians and recounts: "One day, passing through the market, I saw a crowd gathered. I approached and saw a young Turkish woman who the Greek soldiers, after all kinds of insults and humiliations, had stabbed multiple times in the face and hands. The victim crawled all night on her knees and reached the square to seek help. The Greeks surrounding her spat on her, tore her clothes, and cursed her as a Turkish whore. Her open wounds, bleeding, could move even a heart of stone. I ran to the house of Kolettis, the Minister of War, and begged him to send two soldiers to remove this unfortunate creature and put an end to her suffering. Kolettis immediately gave the order. Soon, two men came to the market, grabbed the Turkish woman in a barbaric manner, took her aside, stabbed her three times with a sword, and left her for the dogs. It was one of the horrifying scenes I witnessed daily." (Simop., vol. 2, p. 33)
