Description

The G.Skill Ripjaws DDR4 is aimed at demanding computer users, such as gamers, professionals in video and image editing, designers, and those who require high performance from their laptop or compact PC.

DDR4

DDR4 is the fourth generation of RAM technology for computers. It replaces DDR3 and offers increased speeds and capacity.

It offers operating speeds from 2133MT/s to 4800MT/s, response time (CAS Latency) from CL 9 to CL 22, while its capacity has increased up to 32GB per memory unit.

For speed (MT/s) and capacity (GB), the larger size we choose, the better performance we will have in our system, while for response time (CL), we want the smallest size for the speed (MT/s) we have chosen.

The above characteristics should be compatible with the specifications of our motherboard.

The Ripjaws DDR4 provides speed at 3200MT/s, with CL22 and 16GB per memory unit.

Compatibility

DDR4 technology is compatible with specific motherboards and processors. Indicatively, DDR4 is compatible with Intel Skylake, Kaby Lake, Coffee Lake series processors and the latest Intel processors, as well as AMD Ryzen and Threadripper series processors.

However, for compatibility with your motherboard, you need to ensure that your motherboard supports DDR4 technology from the manufacturer. Compatibility depends on the processor platform and the type of motherboard you are using.

XMP & EXPO


XMP & EXPO is a technology that allows us to increase the frequency and performance of our computer's memory without the need for manual adjustments. (XMP/EXPO) is easily activated from the BIOS, is available on certain RAM memories, and is supported by certain motherboards.

The G.Skill Ripjaws DDR4 has (XMP 2.0/EXPO) profiles with performances:

  • Speed (XMP/EXPO): 3200 MT/s
  • CAS Latency (XMP/EXPO): 22-22-22-52
  • Voltage (XMP/EXPO): 1.20V


Cooling & Design

The aluminum construction material helps to keep the memory modules and the entire computer at a fairly low temperature even during the most demanding operations.

    I bought these specific RAM memories, a total of 64 GB, to replace the 16 GB memory that a mini PC had, which I use for audio, image, and video editing.     Purchased in February 2023 for around €40. Installed in a LENOVO IdeaPad 3 14ALC6 laptop with 4 GB soldered on the motherboard + 4GB in a sodimm, totaling 8GB. Therefore, by replacing the sodimm with a 16GB one from g.skill, the laptop reached 20GB. The installation and operation were flawless, they worked immediately. I preferred them over the corresponding Crucial ones because of the Samsung chips they have, as I believed they would work better with the existing soldered Samsung in my laptop. Attached is a thaiphoon burner screenshot with the characteristics of the sodimm, with information that is not provided by g.skill itself and that I couldn't find anywhere on the internet.
