Description

It is the story of a shepherd, Gaspar, who lives alone on a mountain, with his sheep and his sheepdog.

He has lost both his soldier son in the war in Mali, and essentially his wife who has lost her life due to grief. When a wolf attacks his sheep, he kills it. However, this wolf is a she-wolf and leaves behind a wolf cub that will seek revenge by taking the lives of the entire flock of sheep and the sheepdog, leaving Gaspar completely alone. Since then, the shepherd has only one idea in his mind: to find the wolf and kill it. But winter is harsh, the Alps are terrifying, and the hunt is difficult. In the end, Gaspar no longer wants to kill his prey and simply tries to survive.

Some readers will consider The Wolf to be an ecological fantasy story, where the animal symbolizes that part of nature that escapes human autocracy.

Others, on the other hand, will see it as a philosophical fable in which man becomes a wolf for the wolf.

There are also those who admire the beauty of the images and the way they flow. They see in this work a dreamlike autobiography: The wolf is the rebellious perfection of an artist who seeks his own existence.

Finally, some will see it as a spiritual narrative in which the shepherd, under adverse conditions, relives, during feverish crises, the dialogue with his soldier son who was lost in battle: something that will give him the ability to regain his appetite for life and forgiveness.

They are all right. However you look at it, "The Wolf" has the advantage that it can be read in many different ways. It allows for many different interpretations, and that is precisely what makes it a great work.
